Where it all began with Dance Photography
My first dance session began quite unexpectedly.
A simple Facebook post inviting dancers for a photo session led to the talented ballerina Anna stepping into my modest living room studio. Although I had years of experience in portraiture and lighting, and had developed my own unique style, this was a new challenge—capturing the beauty and movement of dance.
Anna, as ethereal and elegant as ever, was the perfect subject. I had prepared a neutral grey backdrop, knowing I could adjust tones and textures in Photoshop later. I also created a long, transparent skirt with a waistband to add an element of movement and fill out the frame. At this point in my dance photography journey, my approach was instinctive, trusting myself to capture the right moment. My background as a professional flutist likely helped me sync with the rhythm of Anna’s movements, but it was also a combination of intense concentration and pure joy that fueled my passion for photographing such beauty.
Though every frame wasn't perfect—especially in a short session (which, as I now know, isn't ideal for achieving the best results)—I was surprised by how many stunning images came out of it. Of course, hours of editing were required to bring my artistic vision to life, but working with Anna, one of the most remarkable dancers I’ve ever photographed, made the post-production phase incredibly enjoyable.
Since then, my skills have evolved, and my approach has matured. But I believe that passion, combined with knowledge and experience, can still lead to incredible results—just as it did during that first session.
