As a dance photographer I aim to produce finely edited images of your dance artistry. This requires capturing the vibrant and beautiful essence of three dimensional dance motion and translating it into stunning two -dimensional photographs.
Mastering the technical aspects of photography—such as lighting, angles, exposure, and composition—is only one part of the craft. My intensive year-long dance photography training with the esteemed internationally known New York-based photographer Rachel Neville has enriched my understanding of ballet fundamentals, lighting for dancers, and the art of translating movement into captivating imagery. My training continues in the year 2025 to further refine my skills and optimize the experience and photographic shots for dancers. This specialized mentorship allows me to collaborate effectively with dancers of all levels, ensuring they are captured at their best and seen in the most flattering light. I firmly believe that a foundational knowledge of ballet is essential for achieving this level of excellence.
The Story
Dayle Ann Clavin: Photographic Journey
Dayle Ann Clavin was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, but it was her decision to study music in Salzburg, Austria, that set her on a path to discover a new creative passion. In her early twenties, she moved to Salzburg to study music, and it was during her years as a professional flutist that she discovered her love for photography.
A gift from her father—a DSLR camera with a set of lenses—sparked a creative fire that would soon change the course of her life. As a classical flutist, she found many similarities between music and photography, allowing the rules of music to guide her in creating imagery. Her fascination with photography became a central interest as she focused on fine art portraiture and everything involving people.
After graduating with honors from Pragerfotoschule in Austria in 2002, Dayle stepped into the world of photography as a self-employed artist in 2012.
Dayle's enduring fascination with the art of dance and her desire to capture its beauty through photography led her to seek a deeper understanding of ballet technique being the foundation for all dance genres.
Since October 2023, she has embarked on a transformative journey, studying dance photography with the internationally acclaimed New York City dance photographer, educator and former ballerina, Rachel Neville, refining her ability to capture the grace and movement of dancers.
